The Editors’ Note

Aha! – Someone’s actually reading the note from the editors. We shall hence consider this issue of the Purple Patch a huge success!

Firstly we would like to say a big, big thanks to all those who have contributed to this Christmas edition of the Purple Patch. Putting it together has been a heap of fun. We hope you all enjoy reading this 27-page blockbuster.

Let’s be fair – this is the Purple Patch – and to all of you who thought you’d escaped us this issue just remember this: Gossip on the Loughborough Grape Vine travels very quickly indeed.

Here are a few highlights of the treats waiting for you on the following pages of this issue:

Later on we will be introducing you to a brand new squad within the athletics club. They’re all paid up members (most of them) but their identity has been somewhat hazy of late. However, we can proudly reveal their identities tonight. The Purple Patch would also like to take a peek back at some of last year’s untold stories that failed to make the last issue and also to bring all the freshers up to speed on what LSAC members really get up to when they think no-one’s watching. 400m training anecdotes. Intrigued? Read on…

Before we start getting into the nitty-gritty which will no doubt stir things up a bit, we would like to take this opportunity to thank all the freshers and returners who have got involved in the various races so far such as the Birmingham league cross country races etc. We are told (not being a joggers) that the teams have notched up several notable performances. And, even if the Junior teams were let down by an anonymous bus driver who found it hard to navigate a short road journey (good going mate) resulting in our athletes racing with the seniors, we still have the comforting thought of being the undisputed champions of Student Athletics in the United Kingdom. In fact, we’ll get told off for saying that – our title has been disputed once or twice by a certain teams but who has all the silverware?

Hope everyone’s training hard for the forthcoming XC BUSAs and the Indoor BUSAs where we will be looking to bring back the silverware again. Enjoy ‘The Patch’ and thanks for coming!

KT & Dave
